LEACHATE TREATMENT
THROUGH BIOLOGICAL + FILTRATION

Concept

One of the most concerning by-products which decomposing solid urban waste and its mixing with rainwater generates is the formation of a highly-polluting liquid called leachate.

The percolated liquid contains a high organic pollutant load, as well as toxic elements such as arsenic and heavy metals.

To solve this serious problem, GASGREEN S.A. has developed a treatment train, which has been part of several projects.

Process

BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT

Through the inoculation of aerobic bacteria + oxygenation through aerators, the high organic load inside the leachate decomposes. This results in the drastic decrease in the chemical and biological oxygen demand (COD/ BOD) values and smaller decomposed particles which allow subsequent filtration.

MEMBRANE BIOREACTOR (MBR) FILTRATION

This is a MODULAR plant, which, through a membrane filtration system, finishes separating the solid particles from the leachate, creating a liquid which complies with current environmental regulations. The resulting product can be used as irrigation water in the landfill or discharged into a body of water.
